Are you a mom who feels guilty taking time for yourself? You’re not alone! Mom guilt is a feeling that many moms experience, but it’s important to prioritize self-care and take care of yourself in order to be the best mom you can be. In this podcast episode, life coach and author Catherine Wilde shares her personal experience with mom guilt and how she overcame it by exploring her passions and prioritizing self-care.
According to Catherine, the first step to dealing with mom guilt is awareness. By identifying the situations that triggers guilt and examining the thoughts that accompany them, moms can determine if they are empowering or disempowering and make changes accordingly. Catherine also emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with empowering messages and avoiding the trap of comparison, which can lead to judgment and shame.
But how can moms communicate their needs to their families and make self-care a priority? Catherine advises getting clear on what your needs are first, by exploring your values and what’s important to you in this season. Once you are clear on your needs, you can express them to your loved ones and ask for their support.
If you don’t know where to begin with self-care, Catherine suggests starting small and noticing when an idea or activity brings joy. Self-care doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, but can be anything that helps a mom reconnect with herself. Taking small moments throughout the day to reconnect with oneself and ask what you need, whether it’s turning on a favorite song or simply placing a hand over your heart and acknowledging your own importance, can build confidence and help moms show up for themselves little by little.
Moms, you deserve self-care too! Prioritizing self-care and communicating your needs to your family can lead to a more fulfilled and joyful motherhood experience. Start small and take the time and space you need to care for yourself. You got this!
