How Accountability Leads to Productivity

A Purpose Driven Mom Podcast

Episode 386

Are you someone who struggles with accountability? In this episode of the Purpose Driven Mom Show, Cara and her team discuss their experiences with time blocking and planning, particularly as busy moms.

Leading up to a challenge that Cara and her team did, some of them were feeling overwhelmed with the holidays ahead and the season of life they were in. They are able to teach time management, but they were having a hard time following through on things like time blocking for themselves.

Enter the challenge: Cara and her team did a two-week challenge of being accountable to each other by a quick check via Voxer.

For Jamie, she used November as a push month, where she put her head down and planned out everything ahead of December. That way, December could be spent relaxing and enjoying time with the family instead of stressing over gifts, meal planning and everything else the holiday season brings. Jamie emphasizes the importance of leaning into your season and really putting your all to get things done for that time of year.

Ria shares her takeaways from accountability through time blocking. One thing is being able to shift time blocks depending on what is happening during the day. An example Ria had was dealing with an unexpected issue with her kids which took priority over another task. But, with the ability to shift the block to another time that worked, it allowed her to focus on her family when needed. Another takeaway for Ria is being intentional about what she is putting in her time block and comparing what was done from the start of the day to the end.

Arwen shares her takeaway of doing tasks that she feels like doing in the moment as it helps with not getting distracted. For example, focusing on answering emails during a morning time block or having a reoccurring team meeting during an afternoon time block. It is all about figuring out when you work best. This ties into accountability because being aware of when you work best allows you to accomplish tasks and not push them off.

Courtney shares how time blocking was thrown out the window in the summer when she began homeschooling her daughter while being pregnant. For Courtney, so many things got pushed because she did not feel well during her pregnancy. But, by holding herself accountable, she figured out ways to move time blocks around when she was feeling good so she could homeschool her daughter.
