Using Visual Schedules with Marlene Spence

A Purpose Driven Mom Podcast

Episode 397

Are you a busy mom who is struggling with getting your kids to understand their routines and tasks? In this episode of the Purpose Driven Mom Show, Cara and guest Marlene Spence explore the advantages of visual schedules for families and how these tools help children become more independent.

For adults, a visual schedule can look a lot like a to do list. It outlines all the important things we need to get done and keeps us accountable to ourselves. Marlene shares how for children, visual schedules help them see what their expectations are. Visual schedules can be a calendar of due dates or activities throughout the week or a kanban board that showcases all of their chores.

There are many benefits to having a visual schedule, which Marlene and Cara delve into from their own experiences with their kids. One of the benefits to implementing visual schedules is that it creates a structure for children to allow them to learn predictability. Whether it is homework after school, screen time or reading blocks, having a visual aid will allow kids to know when a recurring task or activity needs to be done. With this, kids are able to build independence and do things on their own without relying on their parents.
