with Cara Harvey
If you’re a work-at-home mom trying to stay productive without burning out, Episode 500 of The Purpose Driven Mom Showis the mindset reset you didn’t know you needed. In this special live “studio audience” episode, Cara Harvey reflects on 500 messy, imperfect, still-impactful episodes and shares the lesson that changes everything: success isn’t perfection, it’s showing up—even when your season looks nothing like you planned.
Cara walks you through how to redefine success when life pivots, your energy shifts, or your capacity changes. You’ll hear powerful real-life examples (like releasing “two episodes a week” when it became a burden), why waiting for things to be “normal” keeps you stuck, and how letting go isn’t quitting—it’s creating space for what lights you up. You’ll also hear honest audience reflections on body image pressure, people-pleasing, and the emotional weight of carrying obligations that aren’t aligned anymore.
This episode will help you identify what you’re holding onto out of guilt or “shoulds,” name what you can release for this season, and practice a kinder definition of productivity—one that moves you forward inch by inch. And if you want an easy way to use AI as a supportive tool (not an overwhelming one), grab Cara’s free AI Prompts for Moms so you can lighten your mental load and make decisions faster with less stress.

But thank you for being a part of our 500th episode. Ron had said he was to do something for 500 and I was like, you listen to my podcast? Like I didn’t even know he, like I really don’t think, I didn’t think he listened. And I wasn’t, like I didn’t have a plan and Courtney has been encouraging me, pushing me in the nicest way possible to be like, just do it. It doesn’t have to be huge. It doesn’t have to be, you know, our September event was incredible. It was like a big thing to do. It could just be what it is. And she’s been, thank you, encouraging me to just like let it be what it is.
And I realized, especially after something like last weekend, I love in-person stuff. It’s a lot of fun for me. So thank you for being a part of it. We’re using this mic today, which is good, but I will say this mic will probably pick up things. So part of my intent today is if you are open and want to be recorded, I’ll get up and I have the mic and I can unplug because I have a couple interactive questions and things. So I’ll get up, I’ll come to you and you can talk in the mic if you would like to.
You do not have to, we obviously aren’t gonna, maybe we’ll move the camera, I don’t know yet, but you can, okay? So if you don’t, don’t feel like it, but if you would like to talk to me, I’d love it. So a couple behind the scenes though, yeah. So I take all my stuff off when I do it. I have two softwares running. So I have one that gets the audio, one that gets the video. Then I typically actually, I tape my notes up. This is just something I do. And I tape them up right here on my computer so that can’t see myself. And then I don’t look at myself. And then I’m looking at.
There’s Audacity is the one program I use. It’s just the waves. I get rid of the zoom so it’s running in the background, but I’m not looking at it. So if you watch YouTube and you’re like, she’s not looking at the camera, it’s cause I’m not. I’m just pretending it’s not recording my audio because otherwise I have found that over 500 episodes, like I will stare at myself and I will critique myself versus what I’m saying. Maybe this is kind of like our first lesson into all of it, but the doing it in perfectly. If I waited until I liked how I looked in every single moment, I would never record anything.
If I waited until my hair was always done, I mean, listen, my hair is done today, right? I put some makeup on today, but I typically don’t. And I think this is one of the things in 500 episodes that I’ve learned and gotten feedback from people is that the raw authenticity of me not having to show up perfectly. And I feel like somebody just said that, was it Monday? Like on the planning call, somebody was like, thank you for not having to show up like perfectly or something like that.
Speaker (03:45.132)
because I think that that helps. So for anyone out there who’s thinking, like, I have this thing I wanna share, I wanna do this, whether it’s at work or in your home or whatever, like, just do it boldly because we think that people think about us more than they do. Like, we think that we are the star in somebody else’s show and people are not paying attention to us. Like, there are nasty people who care about what you’re doing and they’re gonna have their opinions about it, but people don’t actually care that much. And I’m so thankful that I got started with this. So May 2019.
was I think the very first episode and it was done super imperfectly because I was excited. I was set up, I had everything going. I was like, I got it. I recorded it. I thought it was great. And then I looked and I realized that my microphone was connected to the internal mic on my computer and I sounded like I was underwater the entire episode. Yes. And did you know the most downloaded episode of your podcast is the first one? That is the most one that people listen to because if they want to learn about you, find you, they search your podcast, they’ll go to episode one.
So that one is the most downloaded and it sounds terrible. And so even today for anybody who’s listening on the podcast or watching and things like that, we’re in a huge gym. It is very echoey. The sound may not be great today, but the opportunity presented itself. So it’s like, hey, let’s go for it. So thank you for dealing with the audio and then thank you everybody else for being here. We have a live studio audience today.
Yes, yes, yes. And I am mic’d up here, so we’re using a different mic today, giving some behind the scenes. And I will say for today’s topic, I had a couple and my daughter picked the topic for today that we’re going to talk about. So we’re gonna kick off with this. We’re gonna get this recording kind of like, not out of the way, that’s the wrong word, but like we’re gonna get this part done. And then I’m gonna teach a little bit. We’re going, as you can see, the craft Michael’s bonanza behind us. We are gonna make in real life vision boards today. I’m gonna guide you through some activities and we’re going to leave with a.
kind of a guide for yourself of what you’d like for the rest of the year, because we know that it’s 29 days in and has anyone had anything change already? Anything shaking you up already? Yeah, like come on now. So we have to be able to pivot and things like that. So what I’m gonna actually talk about and what I’m curious, your opinion as well, is how do we redefine success when your season looks differently than planned? How many times do we do this where we make these goals, we’re like, this is what I wanna do, I have this, who?
Speaker (05:55.808)
Who finished their 2026 planning? Let’s say 50 % or more. 50 % or more did a little bit of planning. Who has an idea of like kind of what they want to do this year? Cool. How many times have you gotten started on it? And then it was like, nope, not going to happen, right? Life is going to do different things. What I have noticed is that a lot of us struggle because we’re like, this is what I want to happen. Something different happens. And then my brain says, I don’t know how to pivot. I don’t know how to adjust around it. And instead of adjusting around it, we do the thing. I’ll just try it again next month.
How many times have you said, I didn’t get my January planning done. So I’m just gonna worry about my February planning. Even though it’s January 10th, come on, let’s do it, right? Even though it’s like the month is not over, but I’m still going to do it. And I think that’s the thing that I have learned after doing this is things are never going to look perfect. And when you can wrap your brain around that, you can start to be kinder to yourself when they don’t look perfect. I shared this that I calculated it once because I was like, when the kids go back to school, like when everything’s perfect.
And when you add up like all the days through the summer, there are more non-five day school weeks than there are the other way around. So I found myself being like, I can’t wait. Like when everything’s normal, when everything’s back to school and they’re all in a five day, I get less of those, but I had been waiting. And for those of you, let’s say we’ve got, right, three of you here homeschooling, right? When do you ever get in, right? You don’t get that. But what are we doing? We wait and we wait. And we’re like, well, when? No one’s sick anymore. Well, when? I’m less stressed at work.
Well, when all this works out, then I’m going to get started and I’m going to do things. But here’s the thing, when we wait, we never move forward. Okay? So I want you to all think of something you kind of have in your head that you’re like holding onto. That thing you’re like, I want to start this. I want to try this. I know I’ve been holding onto it and I want you to think about it. One of the things I want to make sure that we kind of set the norm and I want to give you permission, not that you need it. I say it all the time, but I’m to give it to you today.
is that it is okay if you’re at a slower pace, it is okay if you have to pause, it is okay if you didn’t do any 2026 planning, and you’re like, I don’t know what I wanna do, but I’m trying to start over. What I don’t want to be okay in your brain though, is you thinking, because I haven’t planned, because it’s not perfect, I shouldn’t do any of it. So the mindset that I feel like, especially like I said, 500 very messy episodes has been, just move.
Speaker (08:11.566)
There were times where we used to have two episodes a week. I remember that of the show. Okay, we had about two years where we had two episodes of the week. And we started it because I was able to get in a good flow. I was recording the episodes, getting into my editor, recording, getting into my editor. And then I started to get behind and behind and behind. And all of a sudden the podcast went from something that flowed really easily to something that was really stressful. And I was holding on to two episodes. And I remember talking to my editor at the time and I was like, I just can’t do it. Like I can’t keep up with this, but I don’t want to let anybody else down.
Like people download the episodes, they listen to the episodes. In my head, going back from two episodes to one felt like an absolute failure. Anytime that I had to go back at all, I felt like I was doing something wrong. And I held on to these two episodes a week, probably like six months too long. And I was stressing out about it. I didn’t want to do the podcast. And it was also right around that time. And I don’t know how many of you know this, maybe you don’t. I don’t know if I share this, but I almost thought of closing the club. So was right around that time that I was like,
I can’t handle this anymore. And this is when Keeney, I’m sure you guys remember Keeney was on the team. And I said to Keeney, I said, I think it’s done. I think I can’t do it anymore. I have too much on my plate. I’m not sure what to do. And I almost let it go. And I’m sure, remember I was talking through this and I was like, I just don’t know if I could do it. And I went through and I thought, is that what I want to do? And it wasn’t. This is something I love with my heart and my soul. It is my favorite thing that I get to do in my business. So instead of quitting on all of it, instead of saying I’m failing,
I had to reframe my brain and say to myself instead, what can I do differently? And what that was, was releasing the two episodes a week. And so if you’re sitting here and you’re like, this isn’t working out for me. I have too much on my plate. I’m struggling. I want you to think right now of something that you can probably release. You could write it down, think about it. What is something that you feel like you can release so that you can gift yourself more time and space to do what lights you up? Because what I realized was,
I love doing the podcast. don’t mind doing it, but it was becoming this burden and it wasn’t lighting me up anymore. And I wanted to give myself time. So go ahead and write that down. And if anyone is open to sharing what they need to let go or what they know they’re holding onto, just let me know. And I can come over with the mic. I’d love to hear, because here’s the thing I also know when we hold onto stuff inside, when we don’t externalize it, when we don’t share it, we start to feel rooted in shame.
Speaker (10:36.374)
When I wanted to give up that podcast episode, I held it so tight to my chest because I thought if I told anybody this, it would mean that I was admitting I was a failure. It would mean that I was not doing good enough. So I just lived in this piece of shame. But when we since say it out loud, it’s like taking a deep breath. It’s like, you know what? I don’t have to feel this way. I don’t have to be stuck in the shame of letting things go. It is okay to let things go. And we always say we let them go for the season.
We can always pick them back up. If I want to start doing two episodes again, I know exactly how to pick them back up. But guess what? It’s been two years. I love one episode a week. It’s good. It fits into my schedule. I’m not stressed out about it. I enjoy doing it. I’m wondering, does anyone have anything they want to share that they’re like, I’m ready to publicly, very publicly, on the podcast, say, hey, like, I think I’m holding on to this and I want to let it go. I don’t know if this is kind of what we’re going for, but I had just recently had a baby and I’ve been holding on to some of your posts for him.
wait and feeling like myself again, I want to take that social pressure off of trying to be the size I was before my children. And I feel like that’s something that I see a lot of moms and mom brewers that have bounced back, not something I’ve done. So I kind of want to that go and focus on mental health versus this. Yeah, that’s a glass. I’m going to do my glasses. Anyone else relate to that one? I swear the amount of
times that I feel like this frustrated with pre-kid Kara. I’m like pre-kid Kara did a Tough Mudder. Pre-kid Kara could get up at 4 a.m. Pre-kid Kara did all these things. And here’s, let’s go back to the seasonality of everything. Reminding ourselves that the season I’m in is not the season where I need to go run that Tough Mudder, where I need to go fit back into these clothes. And I shared, was it the other day? I think I just shared this on a call. I said like, my goal now in my forties is like, I want to like live well.
I want to have nobody like have to help me off the toilet. Like that’s it. Like that’s real. Like I want to have those things where I feel healthy. And when we can switch our mind over the pressure, we, how much pressure like for real do we put on ourselves to show up a certain way, to be the perfect mom, to be the perfect person at work, to be the perfect person in our homeschool and to be perfect all the time. If you can release this pressure of one less thing, because not saying you’ll never get there, but if you’re doing it because you feel like you should, right? What do we always say? Stop.
Speaker (12:58.806)
shoulding on ourselves. If you’re doing it because you feel like it should, it’s like that square peg round hole, right? That’s not the alignment. We let it go. See if it’s equal to you to it, except for anybody else do this. The thought of, well, I could do it better and I know how to do it. So I might as well just do it. All those little faces that, yeah. Look up to me. I look forward. Yeah. The Mike Smith, our assistant of Gina. So we always talk about Gina. Gina gave me one of these sayings.
Gina is because I was struggling with this. Like, she asked me the question, like, you volunteer a lot, right? Like, booster club here at the gym girls do the same and she says. Why if you are doing it is like, I love to serve and it brings me the joy. Cool. But if I’m doing it because of like the formal or the. I could do it back up. That’s a bit I can do so, like, I might as well. These are things to release and let go and the other thing that I’ve been thinking about a lot. Well, she said to me was if we try to do everything.
We never give other people the opportunity to learn how to do anything. So if I’m always the one who shows up, always the one coaching, always doing it, then no one else ever gets a chance. And what we’re actually doing is taking that opportunity from somebody. You don’t even have to know who the somebody is out there who will step up and do it. Cause what I know is people will step up. Right? My husband’s coaching basketball. We got the email and we’re need more chips, I was like, no, I team kids on a team. Like, well, I might have to cancel the league. Guess what happened? People stepped up to do it.
Right. So I love this releasing off your plate because you feel like you should. Anybody else have anything they feel that they should? And they’re like, yeah, give another one. So, yeah, so often we get self-conscious about stuff that like is a huge deal to us, like not to anybody else. And I always say like when you’re not putting something out there into the world, whatever that something is that you want to share, you’re getting in the way of other people being able to see themselves in a different light, reach their full potential.
Right? Like I always put that Marian Anderson poem, right? Like when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. So you’re like, I have this thought I want to share, whether it’s with the person next to me, like at work or somebody, if you have a business and you know, I’m so afraid we don’t do it. And we let the fear get in the way. And that was the one thing. Well, listen, some of my episodes, I feel like I’m like, nailed it. That was great. Some of them I’m like, I think I talked about something like, I know they’re not all home runs.
Speaker (15:22.328)
but it’s allowing myself to be okay with the B plus work that is happening. People have asked me like, again, we’re at over 600,000 downloads. I have actually should have looked before we got on, but over 600,000 downloads, 500 episodes, it’s incredible, right? And people are like, how do you do it? And I was like, cause again, I don’t get a lot of big sponsorships. don’t have it. We’re not really promoted that much besides to the email list. Like I really don’t promote it a ton, but I just kept going. And that is the thing I told people. was like, I literally just.
kept recording episodes, even if I didn’t know what I was talking about. I’ve heard you say this 800 times, but it just clicked. I feel like Monday at Planet, I said something, I was like, I’ve heard you describe this and it just clicked, right? So the reminder of, I should just keep going. You were gonna share something you are ready to release. Would you like to come to the chair? My friend’s here, yes. Yes, come on over. Hi, my name is Lisa. Go for it, Lisa, how are you? I’m good. Thanks for being here. Of course, anytime. So actually to speak on that, something I have to release.
is I feel like I am a people pleaser by nature because everyone loves a good praise. And I feel like what I need to release is being everyone’s best friend and being there for everybody in my family. realized pretty recently- But not me, not me though. No, I’ve never lived there. I realized recently when I had my calendar that I had girls night on my calendar and I had no idea who it was with.
My problem is that I make all these plans with these people because I want to be there and show up for everyone and maybe I should make them better because I didn’t know who this was with. But I always try to go to every birthday party. I always try to show up for everyone when I was realizing when I needed it, no one was showing up for me. And not saying like tit for tat, but also I need to focus on the people that are there for me and that love me because that’s the energy I want to put into them. So I want to release, I don’t know how to say that. I want to release putting out more than what I’m.
getting back. I think it’s a pressure thing. think it’s released the pressure to show up 100 % for everyone. Like relationships need to be 100, 100, right? Like not that 50, 50. But here’s the thing. We have different circles of friendships. For example, shocking each other. We have different circles of that where we have to understand like this is that level of friendship and be okay with it. So I have a couple, I have two books that are coming to mind. And the one is, we read it for book club. Oh my gosh.
Speaker (17:38.422)
Seven friends every woman needs to have. Did you guys, it’s so good. It’s in my Goodreads. I’ll look it up, or maybe you can look it up. It’s something like, don’t judge my Goodreads. Courtney’s gonna get on my phone. Don’t judge my Goodreads. It’s not helpful. Guys, you know I’m really good at this. It’s gonna come to me. The Something Circle. You should be about it. It’s really good. We read it for book club. Here, this is my, where are my shelves? You know how to navigate this. Goodreads. Yeah, it’s under my red. It’s gonna come to me. But it talks about the different seven.
types of friendships that every woman needs to have. And this was a big turning point for me when I recognized that every friend has, and every person in your life has a different role that they play and being okay with that. And I think this, again, Gina ism that I talked to my therapist about. I am deep. I wanna like, like trauma dump.
Souls like I want to I want let’s go like I that is the type of friend I want with everyone and I was getting disappointed because not every friendship was that level and I thought it was me like why can’t I make friends is what I kept saying like why can’t I make the friends I want and after reading this book in there being through it was actually It’s not that you can’t make friends. You don’t have them It’s like you have to accept people for who they are You have to accept them for the level of friend that they are be okay with that and then you can embrace it So if it’s a friend I see once every six months
I’m not a bad friend because I only see you every six months. It’s just a level of friendship we have. But it helped me release the pressure to make every friend that friend. I was trying to make every friend my soul sisters, what it was called, right? Like a lot of my friends were the battle buddies, which was like they’re in the trenches with you. So like my friends who have kids the same age as my kids are like my battle buddies, right? Like we’re dealing with puberty at the same time type of thing. But it’s OK if they’re not. Release it. And the other thing about that with boundaries is five dysfunctions of a team.
The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, it’s by Patrick Lencioni, and it talks about the different levels of relationship within a team. How do you have an effective team? And here’s the one thing that I find when it comes to showing up for other people and getting frustrated, right? When we’re in relationships, we have this first level, and it’s the forming. It’s like dating. Like, I’m getting to know you. It’s so nice. Hello. Everything’s peaches and rainbows and unicorns. And like, this is going to be my bestie for the restie, right?
Speaker (19:46.698)
Then when we move into it, we get to this place which is called storming and it’s when expectation doesn’t meet reality. When we want something to look this way and then it’s not looking this way. And what a lot of us do is we internalize and we think it’s not looking this way because I did something wrong, because I didn’t show up appropriately, because I wasn’t a good enough friend. But in reality, all that’s doing is putting this unmet set of expectations on you and it’s not allowing you to move into your full potential because you’re holding on to what you think other people do. And to loop back to what we started with,
People are thinking about you a lot less. And the one thing that I had to also release was this thought of, I just wish people would show up the way I would. I would bend over backwards for people. Like that is my personality, right? And I feel like we’re in this room, you know what mean? Like I will do anything to make other people’s life, back to the sidewalk. But I had said, I mean, the conversation about the snowing of the sidewalk, I was like, I just think that like it’ll make other people’s lives easier if the sidewalk is shoveled, you know? And he’s like, but not everybody thinks like you. And that…
expectation of like not everyone thinks like me like is so hard to let go of. So maybe that’s my release in 2026 is to remember that not everyone is going to be me. And that is an okay thing. But when it comes to friendships last night, Wednesday nights, I go with my friend, her husband works overnight. So she can’t leave. So every Wednesday we go over and watch TV. So last night we’re in the thread and you could tell we’re all tired. It’s cold. I just sat at urgent care for two hours. Like I did not want to go over. And I started to do the thing. Well,
I don’t know if I, like trying to think of excuses, like trying to think of a reason not to go. And I was like, that’s not this group. If I don’t have a group of friends where I could just be like, I’m not feeling it tonight, I’m not coming over and nobody be mad at me, like are we really friends? Right? And I said, listen, I had a long day, I’m not coming over. And someone was like, thank God, I was hoping somebody would say it. Right? Because often that’s what we do is we put pressure on ourselves to not be honest with friends, to not say the phrase, I’m at capacity. Right? That was a phrase, where was it?
It was just last weekend. was like using it in real life with somebody, my friend Sarah, and she was like just stressing out about stuff. And I said, repeat after me. I am at capacity. I cannot help. And she’s like, I don’t know how to say that. And I was like, I am at capacity. I cannot help. And this going back to the two episodes a week is like, I had to acknowledge that I was at capacity. I had to acknowledge like I’m, I’m done. And I think when we’re thinking about 2026, when you’re thinking about where you want to go, when you’re thinking about what you want, ask yourself like, is my cup running over? And if it is,
Speaker (22:12.374)
Is there something I can take away so that I can add in what I actually wanna do? This was a big thing that I talked about last week in the workshop I did, but the question of like, what do you want? Like, do you even know what you actually want or are you just doing things because you feel like you have to? And again, I don’t know if this is my mid-lifey, know, like in my 40s crisis I’m having, but I think about this one a lot. Like, why am I doing this? Like back to Melissa saying like, all right, I think I’m gonna release this coaching. Like, what’s the intent?
If you start to do things and you’re only doing them out of obligation, they become that resentment. Then it’s like anytime somebody needs something from me, I’m like, here they go again. Oh, they’re messaging me again. Like they need me and it becomes this resentfulness. So think about 2026. Think about what you can let go based on the season you’re in, knowing you can pick it back up. I think we think of letting go as quitting. I think we think of letting go as failing. We’re like, oh, I can’t do this right now. How many times have I talked about this crocheting? Dang it.
I pick the crochet up, I put it back down. Every week I’m planning, I’m gonna do a bouche, I’m gonna pick it up. And I don’t beat myself up because I haven’t learned yet. Because I know that I can just pick it back up when I’m ready to pick it back up. Like I’m not going to beat myself up over it. But that’s the mindset. I want you to go into this year with, if I release something, because this isn’t my season, it doesn’t mean it’s gone forever. It means I can bring it back. I could bring two episodes a week. I could do three. I could do live ones if I want. And I think back to live events, you I was like, we did one.
I let it go, I think I’m done. It’s been too long. These were all the shame-filled thoughts in my head, right? It’s been too long. I said I was gonna do one, I wasn’t able to do one. I’m letting everybody down, and then I was like, just do it. Do it imperfectly, and it can still be impactful. Just because it’s imperfect doesn’t mean it’s not impactful. Then I pause. Sometimes when I see stuff like that, I think, that’s gonna a good one, we’re gonna make a sound bite out of that. So then I’ll pause, and I’ll let the audio waves go, and say, that’s a good one. All right.
So let’s talk about energy and success real quick, because I do wanna talk about what your definition of success is gonna look like in 2026. Thinking through the past, it’s important, right? It’s important to see where you’ve gone, but I want you to not dwell too much in that old definition of success and like what you used to be able to do. Like, I just used to be able to do so many amazing things when we were younger and we had more energy and things were easier and life was less complicated, right? Like I think about my kids and I’m like, man.

I can just go back, like what would my kid age be where I didn’t, you before I became a teenager and it was like super hard. And I was just like six or seven before my feelings really started and I just had to exist, right? Like, could I go back there? But we’ve learned all these lessons to be able to do it better now. So I know a lot of us think the only success is like, I gotta go here, right? We’re like, here’s my goal and now I got it all the way here. And if I don’t complete it, then I failed. But I want to just normalize, let it be okay. That if you show up for whatever you say you’re gonna show up for,
That is enough. We always say there’s multiple parts of the goal, right? There’s completing the goal, which I want you to do. I really want you to cross all your things off. I really truly do. But I don’t care that much about that part. Yes, completing the goal is amazing and it feels great. But what I think actually grows your, as a person, it grows your character is you showing up for your goal, right? I always say this, like I talk to myself like all day long, right? Like for, I was literally sitting up here and I was like bringing the chairs in and I was carrying everything in by myself.
I was like, really proud of you for doing this, Karen. I look at my chairs out loud. I’m like, you know, you’re not going to do it. You’re going to cancel. Like, here you are. Like, look at you showing up. Like, I just do it all the time. Because for so much of my life, I thought that the only way I was valuable was if somebody else said that to me. And I clung to that. If I didn’t hear good job, which I didn’t growing up, right? That was not a phrase. This is not a phrase that we heard. I didn’t hear you did a good job. I didn’t hear thank you. I didn’t hear any of those things. So I thought unless I…
heard it from someone else, it didn’t matter. And then what switched for me was realizing I could be the one to give it to myself. Like I can be the one who says, good job. And so, yeah, I talk to myself all day long. Like it’s wild. Sometimes like I’ll be talking to my mom, are we, I’m like, yeah, I’m just doing my thing, right? But it lets me rewire my brain to being like success is showing up. So when I show up and I get my exercise in, even if I don’t want to, when I show up for, yesterday.
Stressful day, right? I was like done and I have a couple of my habit stacks I wanted to do and I didn’t hit a few. I went over my calorie deficit and I ate after nine and all those things I said I wasn’t due, but I did my stretch because I was sitting there and I was like washing my face and I always like I layer my habit triggers. So while my serum is like doing its thing in my skin, I do a five minute stretch because I’m sitting here anyway. My options are pick up my phone or stretch. So I was like, just do your stretch. And I was like, I don’t want to do my stretch. And I was like, just stretch. So I just did it. Like that was literally the conversation I had with myself. I probably turned like that like
Speaker (26:55.564)
because I realized that my brain wanted to make it done. My brain wanted to be like, well, you over ate and you broke your rules and you didn’t do any of these things, so you might as well not eat. What is the point? Like my brain said it, like what is the point? And instead of getting stuck in what is the point, I said, how can I show up? So when you’re thinking about the year, what I want you to think about is how can I show up? Like how can I just do something? Because it isn’t about the perfection, it’s about moving forward, moving parallel.
an inch, a centimeter, it doesn’t matter. Because when you show up, when you don’t feel like you want to, what happens in your brain, right, is in your prefrontal cortex, all of those synapses are firing and their job is like, keep me safe, keep me safe, don’t do things that are dangerous. And so when you show up in something that feels dangerous, risky, like you could fail, your brain’s like, wait, I can do this. I am now a person who can show up. And then it becomes less hard and less challenging when things are hard and challenging because things will be hard and challenging. So I want you to think this year.
about what success would look like if you looked differently. If you went out of the traditional, must complete this or I’m failing, and you allowed showing up to be the goal. What would showing up look like for you? What would you allow to be enough? Because here’s the thing, it’s not just you show up, it’s mentally allowing that to be enough, saying it is okay if I don’t do it all the time. Think of a goal you have, and if anyone wants to come to the chair and share it, so you’re more than welcome, in a way that you could just show up for this goal.
that you would let be enough. Anyone wanna share what their new definition of success will be like this year? Chair is here. Well, if you’re listening to this episode or watching whatever video we might be able to salvage of this, since I’m all over the place, I don’t think this camera’s working, we’re fine. Think about that. Think about what success is gonna look like. And what this is gonna do is actually transition as well, because for those of you sitting here in front of me on episode 500 versus you listening, we’re actually going to sit and redefine our definition of success now. We’re gonna transition into creating this vision.
for what we would like our life to be like. Not what we feel the FOMO of, not like we feel what we have to do, but instead what we would like more of. Show notes for this episode will be at PurposeDifferentMom.com slash podcast 500. You can feel free to check all of those out and everything else that we have going on. Thank you to everyone who came to our live recording. I put my fancy voice on for you guys, because it always sounds like the end.
